Disneyland Reopening Delayed

Mouse Fans everywhere share disappointment that the reopening of Disneyland Park will be delayed. I’m sending hugs to all of you out there. We know that this is a necessary step in order to keep everyone safe. The theme parks would not be the same without all of the smiling, healthy visitors within. Below the is the official statement by Disney.

We previously announced a proposed phased reopening of our theme parks for July 17, pending government approvals. We developed enhanced health and safety protocols for both cast and guests at Shanghai Disney Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort that have been approved, allowing us to reopen in a responsible manner and bring our cast members back to work.

The State of California has now indicated that it will not issue theme park reopening guidelines until sometime after July 4. Given the time required for us to bring thousands of cast members back to work and restart our business, we have no choice but to delay the reopening of our theme parks and resort hotels until we receive approval from government officials. Once we have a clearer understanding of when guidelines will be released, we expect to be able to communicate a reopening date.

Our Downtown Disney District will reopen on July 9 as previously announced with health and safety protocols in place for our cast members and guests. The opening of our Downtown Disney District has been previously approved in line with restaurant and retail openings throughout California. The Master Services Union, which represents our retail cast at this location, previously signed an agreement for members to return to work.

In order to reopen our theme parks we need to negotiate agreements with our unions to return employees to work. We have had positive discussions and are very pleased to have signed agreements from 20 union affiliates, including the Master Services Council, which represents more than 11,000 of our cast members. The signed agreement details plans that include enhanced safety protocols that will allow us to responsibly reopen, and get thousands of our cast members back to work.

We thank our cast and guests for their patience during this unprecedented time while we await approval from government officials.

Now we will wait and see what the state of California and the Disney officials come up with together. Above all, stay safe, take care of yourself and We’ll See Ya Real Soon

Reopening FAQ’s

Parks Info

What new operational procedures are in place for Universal Orlando Resort?
We are implementing specific procedures and practices that are in line with CDC guidelines for the safety and health of our team members and guests. These new procedures will cover three areas – screening, spacing and sanitization – and key measures include:

  • -Guests and team members are required to wear face coverings
  • -Guests and team members are required to undergo temperature checks. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or greater will not be able to enter Universal CityWalk or the theme parks
  • -Staggered parking within the parking garage to help create distance between travel groups
  • -Limiting and reducing daily park attendance and attraction ridership in Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and Universal’s Volcano Bay
  • -Increasing cleaning and disinfection of food locations, ride vehicles and other frequent “touch points” that go beyond our already-aggressive cleaning procedures
  • -Social distancing at all locations through the parks, within attractions and queues and at restaurants
  • -Having Virtual Line available for select attractions
  • -Offering cashless payments and “no touch” policies where possible

Please note the CDC advises that older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions might be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.  Guests should evaluate their risk in determining whether to visit.  People who show no symptoms can spread COVID-19 if they are infected, any interaction with the general public poses an elevated risk of being exposed to COVID-19, and we cannot guarantee that you will not be exposed during your visit.

Due to the evolving nature of this situation, details are subject to change without notice.

Are the parks reopening at reduced capacity during this phase?
Yes, we are limiting attendance at our theme parks during our phased reopening.

Is a reservation required in order to visit the theme parks beginning June 5?
No, a reservation is not needed in order to visit the theme parks. Please note that since we’re limiting attendance, there may be times when the parks reach capacity and additional guests will not be admitted.

What about hotels?  And what if I have a hotel reservation?
Our hotels are an important part of our guest experience and we will share details soon. We are still finalizing our reopening plans and will contact those guests with reservations as soon as our plans are available.

Who will be the “limited number of guests” during your first days of operation?
We are still working through those details and will share soon.

Will all rides and attractions be open?
Majority of the attractions and experiences within the parks are scheduled to open. Select experiences will not be available during this phase, and some queue experiences may be slightly altered as we implement our new procedures. Additional details and specific experiences will be shared soon.

Will I be required to wear a face covering?
Yes.  We are following CDC guidelines as well as local health protocols.  If you have a disability that prevents you from wearing a face covering you will be referred to guest services to discuss ways we can accommodate you. If you do not have a face covering, we’ll have them available for purchase. Also, per CDC guidelines, children under the age of two are not required to wear facial coverings.

Will I have to wear my face covering while on the attractions?
Yes, guests will be required to wear face coverings on attractions. The only exception will be for attractions that include significant amounts of water as part of the experience, as well as Volcano Bay’s slides and pools.

Will I have to use my own hand sanitizer in order to board a ride vehicle?
Universal Orlando team members will provide guests with the hand sanitizer that is required prior to boarding a ride vehicle.

What is Virtual Line?
Virtual Line allows guests to select a time to experience an attraction via the Official Universal Orlando Resort app so they’re minimizing the time they’re actually waiting in the queue line. Guests can make Virtual Line selections while they’re onsite at the parks on the day of their visit. Virtual Line will be available for select attractions.

How will you implement social distancing guidelines at Universal’s Volcano Bay?
Overall, Universal’s Volcano Bay will follow the same guidelines and procedures as the other theme parks. Some of the specific measures we’re taking to implement social distancing at Volcano Bay include:

  • -We will limit capacity on each attraction – including rivers and pools
  • -For multi-person raft rides, only one travel party will be allowed to ride in a single raft. Please note that Volcano Bay’s standard height and weight requirements will be applicable.
  • -Lounge chairs will be placed in a fashion that allows travel parties to sit together, while also maintaining at least six feet of distance between other guests.

At Volcano Bay, will I have to wear my face covering while on the slides?
Face coverings are recommended when guests cannot socially distance.  They will not be permitted on slides and in pools.

Will all Volcano Bay team members wear face coverings?
Face coverings are required for team members in “dry” roles.  Team members who have “wet” roles, such as lifeguards, will wear a balaclava when they cannot socially distance.  These will not be worn on slides or in pools for safety reasons.

Will the TapuTapu wearables be cleaned and sanitized?
Yes, per our standard practice, all TapuTapu wearables will be cleaned and sanitized prior to guest use.

CityWalk

When will clubs and Universal Cinemark reopen? What about Blue Man Group?
During this phase of reopening, Universal Cinemark, all nightclubs and Blue Man Group will remain closed. Opening dates for these venues will be shared when available.

Miscellaneous

Will you have themed face coverings for sale?
Yes, we will have themed face coverings available for purchase in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned for updates.

Will these new procedures be in place for Halloween Horror Nights and the 2020 Holidays celebration?
More details about these events will be shared at a later time.

Disney Springs Reopening Begins May 20th

Who else is ready for a little Disney back in their life? My heart started to beat a little faster when I read the news that Disney Springs will begin a phased reopening on May 20th.

The first phase will include a limited number of shopping and dining experiences that are owned by third-party participants. The rest of Walt Disney World theme parks, resorts & other areas will remain closed. Disney states that they will follow the guidance of government and health officials.

Disney continues discussions with unions as they prepare some of the cast members for work. They will apply knowledge from leaders in health and travel industries.

There will be limitations on capacity and operating hours during the initial opening phase. Additional protocols and procedures & hours may be announced closer to the opening date.

Disney Store Releases Themed Masks for Pre-Order Online

This morning Disney released masks for Pre-Order through their website. I’m surprised it took them this long to offer these in the U.S. since they have been selling them for years in China. You can order them HERE. The cost is $19.00 per 4 pack plus tax & $5.95 shipping.

When you order a family 4 pack, they must be all the same design. You cannot currently order one Stitch and one Star Wars mask together. The masks seem to be SUPER popular & I expect these will sell out fast! When I went to our Star Wars masks for my family I was taken to a virtual queue to wait my turn.

They come in three different sizes. Small, Medium & Large.

There are several different styles to choose from. Star Wars, Marvel, Mickey, Princess & Character Mouths.

Whey will they arrive??? Sometime in June. When I checked out it said that the item will be available by 6/15/20, but it didn’t say when it would ship or arrive.

As for any Disney fanatic the thrill was in the hunt for our family. The more they made us wait, the more we wanted them. The website is glitchy & wouldn’t allow us to check out, so we had to save the item in our cart & try different browsers & different computers. The app would not work at all. Chrome was where we were finally successful in buying ours.

Disney’s feel good moment is that they are donating masks to areas in need. On Disney Parks Blog they stated: “To further help those in need, Disney is donating one million cloth face masks for children and families in underserved and vulnerable communities across the U.S., including California and Florida, that will be distributed by MedShare. Disney will also donate all profits from the sales in the U.S. of Disney’s cloth face masks to Medshare, up to $1 million, now through September 30, 2020. “

HERE IS THE LINK again to where you can order your masks.
May the Force be with You. – Melissa

Reopening Guidelines for Walt Disney World and Orange County Theme Parks – Released by the Orange County Task Force.

The Orange County task force met this morning to discuss opening phase guidelines for the reopening of businesses & theme parks in Orlando, Florida. They are still awaiting input from the Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis & they plan to meet with him about these guidelines later tonight.

This does not mean that Walt Disney World & surrounding theme parks will open their doors in the near future, but it does look promising that they are putting guidelines in place to prepare for a safe reopening.

The Orange County Task Force said that these are only guidelines for the Theme Parks, but Walt Disney World and other parks are going to have to choose to reopen when they feel that it is safe.

From what is listed in the guidelines above, one can only imagine that there might be very limited, if any access to the shows around the theme parks because the requirement to remain 6 feet apart would be virtually impossible. How they control the guest capacity in the parks, hotels & restaurants is anybody’s guess at this point.

As we can see above, reopening of the hotels will look very different & if you enjoy your morning coffee, be ready to sacrifice that amenity in your room if you visit Walt Disney World in the near future. I would gladly sacrifice some of the various amenities to visit Mickey again. Would you?

Just stocking enough hand sanitizer to supply the number of people who go through the Walt Disney World restaurants, will take time. Thus, reopening may not happen as fast as we all want it to. Due to the dynamics of following these restaurants, there may be some food locations that remain closed when the parks first open.

For theme parks, he mall & Retail guidelines will apply mainly to Disney Springs and Universal CityWalk. Since a number of the stores in Disney Springs are independently operated, they may not all choose to open when Disney Springs reopens. They would have to follow these guidelines on their own.

If you are like me you are anxiously awaiting news of a possible opening date for the theme parks and wondering how they plan to actually enforce the guidelines. Unfortunately, the answer to that seems to be ‘wait and see’. We all have to watch the virus statistics & trust that the decisions made will be in the best interest of everyone. Nobody wants to reopen the parks more than the cast members & surrounding businesses that depend on them for their livelihood.

Keep following me on Facebook & more for up to date information as it is released.

We all know one thing… Eventually Walt Disney World WILL REOPEN. I’m excited for that day, I hope that you will reach out to me to help you plan your next vacation, and I look forward to being back in the parks again.

Introducing Capture Your Moment, A New Disney Parks Photo Experience at Magic Kingdom Park

Imagine preserving your special Disney memories forever through priceless photos that will be cherished for a lifetime. Hang those pictures on a wall, put them on a mantle or create your own photobook. Whatever you choose to do with them is up to you, but it’s hard to put a price on those forever memories.

Disney PhotoPass photographers are always ready to capture your vacation memories all around Walt Disney World® Resort. From picture-perfect scenic spots to popular dining experiences, these are great opportunities to take beautiful photos that include the entire family. You can enjoy these standard photo benefits when you add a Memory Maker to your Walt Disney World vacation package.

If you are celebrating something special, or just a photo junkie like me, and you want a bit more time in front of the camera, the Disney PhotoPass team is piloting a new experience at Magic Kingdom® Park called “Capture Your Moment.”

Capture Your Moment lets guests book time with a Disney PhotoPass photographer for a personalized photo session during regular park hours at Magic Kingdom Park to capture celebrations and milestones, such as a proposal, baby announcement, graduation, anniversary, family reunion, first visit, birthday, and more!

All Capture Your Moment photo session locations will offer an iconic view of Magic Kingdom Park, to include a view of Cinderella Castle. At the start of your session, your photographer will share available photo shoot locations and discuss what you would like to capture before escorting you to your photo shoot location. Once you arrive at your photo shoot location, you will have the opportunity to capture photos there with your photographer for up to 20 minutes.

Each Capture Your Moment session is $50. If you are looking for more time in front of the camera, you can book two Capture Your Moment sessions back-to-back for $100, and spend up to 40 minutes with your photographer capturing photos. With two sessions booked, during your 40 minutes, you will have the option to visit at least two photo locations.

The Disney PhotoPass photographer will customize the photo shoot to your needs while using their creativity and personal style to take stunning photos.

Bookings are now open for Capture Your Moment sessions. Capture Your Moment photo sessions are available starting February 10, 2020. A limited number of same-day reservations may be available starting February 10

Walt Disney World 2020 Dining Plans – Important Updates

Overall the Walt Disney World Dining Plan entitlements & locations have not changed leaps and bounds from 2019. The BIG change going into place now is the separation of the child & adult quick service meal credits.
CLICK HERE to visit my page that explains what the 2020 Dining Plans offer.

Although Disney rules have always stated that children ages 3 – 9 must order off of the children’s menu where available, in the past quick service dining credits were not tracked separately for children and adults. This allowed children a little more freedom. If they didn’t like what was offered on the children’s menu, or maybe had larger appetites, they could order off of the adult menu.

Due to the credit separation loophole, families had found ways to order all adult meals with their quick service credits & share the larger portions in order to stretch the value of their dining plan. If you were one of those people, be prepared, if you order adult meals for your children age 3 – 9, you may end up with only child credits left to use.

Below is a screen shot in the Disney app showing the credits available & the credits used.

Keep in mind that Disney is closing a loophole in their tracking system. Their rules have always stated that children 3 – 9 must order from a child’s menu.

Will this affect your decision to add a Disney dining plan to your next Walt Disney World vacation package? What are your thoughts on this change? Add your voice to the comments below.
