Dinner Reservations Coming to ABC Commissary in Hollywood Studios

There are some enchantments coming to the ABC Commissary restaurant in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This restaurant offers a quick-service lunch menu and a fast-casual dinner menu. Menu options include things like a Vegan Burger, a BBQ Rib Platter, a Teriyaki Bowl and more.

ABC Commissary in Hollywood Studios

Over the next few months the restaurant will be getting some new enhancements that include a self-serve beverage station & a new Art-Deco-inspired theme.

The major new addition will be optional reservations beginning on June 2, 2019 for meals starting at 4:00pm daily. This will be the second quick service restaurant to offer reservations, but they will not be required as they are at Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom. Like Be Our Guest Restaurant, guests will place their order at the cash register, take a pager & their meal will be delivered to them once it is ready. With reservations at ABC Commissary guests will enjoy the same fast-casual dining experience with guaranteed seating.

My thoughts…
From my previous experience at the ABC Commissary we have never had a great deal of trouble finding a seat, so the addition of dinner reservations has a few thoughts running through my head.
1. Disney is testing this & preparing for the onslaught of crowds that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is sure to bring when it opens in August.
2.Disney is testing this method of dining reservation to use in future quick service restaurants such as the space themed restaurant coming to Epcot & the quick service restaurants in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

I have been told that the restaurant will continue to accept the Disney Dining Plans and is currently 1 quick service credit per meal, including the dinner reservations.

Will the dinner reservations at ABC Commissary be permanent? That all remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more Disney news.

It is important to choose a Disney focused travel planner when planning your vacation. They will keep you up to date on all of the necessary reservations for your vacation.

Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante Lunch Review

We had chosen to take our family to lunch & a movie in Disney Springs for a belated Valentine’s day weekend. We chose Maria & Enzo’s because we felt that this beautifully themed, Italian restaurant offered a romantic ambiance perfect to set the mood for the holiday.

A grand staircase leads down into this storied restaurant that is set in an airline terminal from the 1930’s. The beautifully decorated, 50 foot high ceilings and windows offer tranquil views of Lake Buena Vista. Vintage maps and artifacts are playfully on display throughout the restaurant.

Overview

Location: Disney Springs
Hours:
lunch 11:30am – 3:30pm
dinner 5:00pm – 10:00pm
Dining Style: Table Service, Italian food
Atmosphere: romantic & spacious
My review of this experience: 5 out of 5 stars

Review from our Experience
We wanted to see if we could walk into this restaurant & enjoy a late lunch without a reservation. We arrived around 1:00 and were seated right after checking in. Reservations are always recommended, but this restaurant offers plenty of seating if you do not have a reservation. The theme of this restaurant is eye catching and colorful with lots to look at inside and outside the lake view windows. Families are welcome, but I can see this being the perfect setting for a romantic dinner for two.
About the food
Our meal was started with bread service. The bread was fresh & delicious with a soft warm center and a crisp crust. The authentic olive oil complimented it well.
We chose to order from the Prix Fix Menu for $21 per person. We thought this was a good value for the food & experience offered. When ordering from the Prix Fix menu each person can select a pasta dish “Antipasti” and a main course “Secondi”. We had trouble choosing so we ordered one of each.
Although we did not order from the kid’s menu, my son is young enough to get one and the menus are adorable and comes with a cute little wings pin that you see in the photo above.
Antipasti (Photos below)
– The Cesare Salad was arguably the largest portion of the three options. It was topped with a generous layer of fresh Parmesan cheese and the dressing had a wonderful tang with lots of flavor. The croutons were delicious & small pieces were well blended throughout the salad.
– The Caprese in Carozza had lovely flavors that complimented one another and tasted well mixed in one bite on the fork. The cheese was well cooked with a crisp crust & tender inside without being stringy & difficult to cut or eat.
– The Polpettine plate offered two large meatballs that were moist & tender & not overdone. The creamy, ricotta, tomato sauce was very complimentary to the dish.

Secondi/Main Course (Photos Below)
– The Ravioli Alla Panna plate had 4 large, beautifully filled ravioli smothered in the smooth Parmesan cream sauce. The ravioli were filled with a three cheese blend but most of the flavor came from the ricotta cheese.
– On the Shrimp Fra Maria plate, the linguini seemed slightly underdone. I like a lot of sauce so the sauce seemed a little scarce, but the juicy, large, plentiful shrimp made up for any shortcomings with this dish.
– The Chicken Parmigiana seemed to be the largest portion of the meal. The breaded chicken was topped with plenty of sauce & cheese. The penne pasta was well cooked & tender. The chicken pieces were top grade without a single tough or grisly bite that I typically expect with chicken.

The service was very good in true Disney fashion. Our server helped us with a big smile & made polite conversation. He also kept our drinks refilled and got the food to our table in a timely manner. We will certainly keep this restaurant on our list for our future endeavors in Disney Springs.

What I would change for next time
I will try the Sirloin Steak Pizzaiola and indulge in a canoli for dessert. This time we were on our way to a movie in Disney Springs & we wanted to save room for popcorn. 😉

Enzo’s Hideaway Lunch Review

After feasting our way through the holidays & being spoiled by all of the good food, we couldn’t just end our holiday week with McDonald’s. We had to have some gourmet, food at Walt Disney World. We chose to have lunch at Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar in Disney Springs. Contrary to the title, this family friendly atmosphere is stunning and tells an intriguing story that does not disappoint.

The story of this restaurant refers to Maria & Enzo’s Restaurante as well as The Edison in Disney Springs and it goes like this…

While inspecting the building prior to taking full ownership, Enzo discovered a long-hidden place below the terminal that connected to abandoned sections of the next-door power plant. To Enzo’s astonishment, he came across a Prohibition-era hideaway where a team of flying rum-runners once gathered. Evidence of smuggler activity remained, untouched for decades. Enzo decided that the space might make an irresistible spot for dining and socializing to highlight the family recipes he grew up on, highlighting specialties from Rome and nearby regions.

An Italian Restaurant & Speakeasy, this restaurant is a fun & novel place to dine in Disney Springs and I will definitely visit it again. Following it’s name & story line, it is a bit of a hidden gem that can be easy to get into even when you don’t have a reservation.

Overview

Location: Disney Springs
Hours:
lunch 11:30am – 3:30pm
dinner 5:00pm – 10:00pm
Dining Style: Table Service, Italian food
Atmosphere: Mysterious & edgy
My review of this experience: 5 out of 5 stars

Menu

Review from our Experience
After enjoying a movie in Disney Springs, we decided at the last minute to have lunch at Enzo’s Hideaway. They were happy to accommodate us, with no wait, even though we did not have a reservation. Reservations are recommended, but this restaurant is a good place to start if you do not.
I was immediately impressed with the theme of this restaurant as we rounded the corner into the hideaway. It is what you would imagine a speakeasy to look like starting with the slot in the entrance door through the brick entrance, complete with graffiti on the walls, and ending with the hidden tunnel in the back. Yes, it DOES have a hidden tunnel where you can imagine the rum runners making a quick exit from the police during prohibition. We had a wonderful history lesson with our children over this meal. 😉
About the food
– The Bread service was good with optional oil & I like to dip my bread in oil. The oil was very authentic and maybe a little bitter to my palate.
– The Classic Lasagna was cheesy & a very large portion. It was cooked well and the flavor was blended.
– The Branzino or Sea Bass, was tender & flaky with a slight lemon flavor. The grapes and green beans were complimentary to the fish. My husband did not care for the green beans because they were sauteed and remained a little crisp.
– The Roasted Chicken Saltimbacca was my favorite. This delicious chicken was cooked to perfection and well seasoned with a tender inside and slightly crispy on the outside skin. The vegetables with it were all perfect from the tender artichokes to the broccoli and a nice flavor was added with a few capers. The entire plate was a scrumptious medley of flavors that blended well.
– Chocolate Ice Cream was for dessert for my youngest & he loved the waffle chip that came with it the most.
– Of course I had to try the Canoli and it did not disappoint. I wanted to lick the plate after finishing it, but thought that might be frowned upon.

We finished every bit of food on our plates and since we just consumed two buckets of popcorn at the movie prior to this lunch, that tells you that the food must have been good.

The service seemed slightly European in nature. We had to ask every time we wanted more water and they only filled the one glass. Other than that the service was prompt and with a smile in true Disney fashion.

I see this place as the perfect guys getaway or bachelor get together before a wedding. It can also be a little on the romantic side and even fun for a girlfriend celebration. Any history buff will get a huge kick out of seeing this & if your kids are missing school they can tell the history teacher that they got to learn about a speakeasy when they were on vacation.

What I would change for next time
The only thing I might change for next time is not filling up on popcorn first so that I have room to try the Cannoli Sundae that looked so inviting for dessert.

Additional Information
To complete your visit to this restaurant, you have to find the ‘hidden tunnel’. If you are having trouble finding it, just make a trip to the restroom. 😉

Comparing Walt Disney World Resort Categories

With more than 25 different resorts to choose from, deciding where to stay can often be the most difficult part of planning a Walt Disney World vacation.  They all have stunning & bright design & top notch Disney service.  It really all boils down to personal preference and taste and maybe even your budget might play a part.

Walt Disney World Resort categories compared. Value, Moderate & Deluxe Resorts compared. - PixieDustAdventures.com

When you book a package, at any Walt Disney World Resort, you will get:

  • Free transportation from & to the Orlando airport via Disney’s Magic Express
  • Free MagicBands (one per person)
  • Exclusive Extra Magic Hours in the parks, for Disney resort guests only
  • Complementary parking & transportation to all the Disney Parks and Disney Springs
  • Early access to Fastpass+ planning
  • Early access to dining reservations
  • Complimentary entertainment and recreation at your resort
  • Access to refreshing pools at your resort
  • Select ‘Magical Extras’ like one free round of mini-golf & shopping discounts

Value Resorts

All value resorts offer:

  • Several themed pools but no water slides
  • Bus transportation to all the parks and Disney Springs (only 1 internal bus stop)
  • Rooms that open to outside hallways
  • 260 – 277 square foot standard rooms, with 2 double beds or 1 king bed, that sleep 4 guests.
  • Mini refrigerators are usually standard in every room
  • Coffee makers and coffee included in only the family suites
  • Art of Animation & All-Star Music Resorts offer family suites that sleep up to 6 guests.
  • Food courts and pizza delivery, but no table service restaurants
  • Family friendly theming that is bright & fun with larger than life icons around the resort
  • Price Range: $96 – $214 for the standard rooms

Value resorts are Disney’s most economical choice for your vacation.  They offer the best ‘value’ for your dollar and are perfect for people that plan to spend most of their time in the parks and less time relaxing at the resort.

My favorite value resort has to be a tie between Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Art of Animation.  Art of Animation has amazing themeing around the resort, lobby & pools with a more upscale feel to the food court, but is at the upper end of the value resorts.  I also like Pop Century resort, while still well priced, it has it’s own bus service that it does not share with other resorts, an satisfying food court and great pools.

• New in 2018: Parking fees for overnight guests – $13 per night

Moderate Resorts

All moderate resorts offer:

  • A ‘feature pool’ with a water slide and other quiet pools throughout the resort
  • A calm and romantic atmosphere with beautiful landscaping and walking paths
  • A table service restaurant (except for French Quarter), food courts & pizza delivery available
  • Recreation options on-site for an additional fee as well as free recreation & entertainment
  • Large resorts with spread out layout
  • Bus transportation with multiple stops throughout the resort, to all the parks & Disney Springs.  The Port Orleans Resorts have boat transportation to Disney Springs.  Port Orleans French Quarter is smaller and only has 1 bus stop.
  • Rooms that open to outside hallways
  • 314 – 340 sq ft rooms with 2 queen beds or 1 king bed.  Most standard rooms sleep up to 4 guests.
  • Mini refrigerators are usually standard in every room
  • Coffee makers and coffee
  • Riverside and Caribbean Beach Resort have some rooms that sleep up to 5 guests
  • Coronado Springs Resort has Jr Suites that sleep up to 6 guests
  • Riverside and Caribbean Beach Resort have special themed rooms
  • Price Range: $182 – $285 a night for standard rooms

Moderate resorts have a more upscale feel, but also less bright and ‘Disney’ themed areas.  The resorts all have wonderful landscaping with nice walking pathways around the resorts.  The quick service food options are a little more upscale and most of the moderate resorts offer a table service restaurant.

It’s so difficult for me to choose a favorite resort out of these four fabulous choices.  I LOVE the pools at the Caribbean Beach and Coronado Springs resorts, but the quaint size of the French Quarter Resort is also nice.  My kiddos have really enjoyed staying in the themed rooms.  Choosing your resort is really unique to your family and to what kind of experience you are looking for.

Deluxe Resorts

All deluxe resorts offer:

  • A ‘feature pool’ with a water slide and other quiet pools throughout the resort. Many have hot tubs to relax in.
  • Amazing, unmatched theming with luxurious lobbies and gift shops
  • Table service restaurants (with 1 upscale option) and quick service food, but no food courts.
  • Bus transportation to all of the Disney Parks and Disney Springs
  • Non-bus access to at least 1 park (except Animal Kingdom Lodge)
  • Walking paths from some of the resorts to the one of the theme parks
  • On-site gyms, salons and valet parking available
  • Recreational options for an added fee
  • Free fun and recreation scheduled daily around the pools and movies at night
  • Rooms that open to inside hallways
  • Standard room sizes that start at 316 sq ft and sleep up to 5 guests
  • Mini refrigerators are usually standard in every room
  • Coffee makers and coffee
  • Some deluxe resorts offer villa rooms that have multiple bedrooms, bathrooms and full sized kitchens and sleep up to 12 guests
  • Price Range: $320 and up, per night.  Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge are the least expensive

If you want your vacation to be unforgettable in upscale style, than you should consider a deluxe Disney resort.  At the deluxe Disney resorts I could easily spend a  relaxing day sitting around the pool and enjoying the food & free recreation.

It would be difficult for me to choose a favorite resort in the deluxe category.  I like the Beach Club Resort for it’s easy access to Epcot Park, but I also like the Polynesian resort for it’s rich theming and monorail access to the Magic Kingdom.  The Contemporary is such a Disney icon and Animal Kingdom Lodge has a special place in  my heart because I love Animal Kingdom and watching the animals from my savanna view room.  Each deluxe resort offers impeccable amenities and service.
