Jedi Training Academy in Walt Disney World

Jedi Training Academy is currently only be offered in Walt Disney World.  Jedi Training Academy has been ended in Disneyland, but I’m crossing my fingers that they will bring it back with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Jedi Training takes place at Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Resort and runs throughout the day with approximately 20 participants (ages 4-12) as Jedi Younglings.  The best part is… Jedi Training is free of charge with your park admission ticket!

Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the article for a full length video.  😉

In Hollywood Studios the sign up process for Jedi Training begins early in the morning at park opening, it is wise to line up at the park entrance before the park even opens.  You will sign up at the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost located between the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and the 50’s Prime Time Cafe. The sign up line actually begins at the entrance to the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular attraction.  Once you sign up, you will then be given a time and a ticket to return and participate.

Jedi-Training-Tickets
When you leave the sign up area you should have your ticket to return (middle), you can get some neat Force Push post cards.

After you have secured your spot into Jedi Training you may enjoy your day throughout Hollywood Studios until your time to return.  You MUST arrive back at the sign up location, 30 minutes prior to your performance time or your spot will be given to a person waiting on standby, and trust me there are a lot of them.

Be sure to take a bathroom break before checking in at the Indiana Jones Outpost.  While the children wait they are given a bottle of water.  Once everyone has checked in, the children are lined up from smallest to tallest.

Jedi-Training-Line-up

After everyone is in line they are all given Jedi Robes before their training starts.  One parent is asked to walk by each child to the training area to get a photopass card from your show photographer.  Since “Jedi Training” became “Jedi Training, Trials of the Temple” in 2015, there are now 2 different stages in the Jedi Training area (still side by side).  One stage will fight Darth Vader and one will fight the Seventh Sister.  Because of the 2 stages, there are 2 Photopass photographers, be sure that you get the correct card for the stage your child is on.

Jedi-Training-Line-up-robes
The younglings are taken out to the training grounds where they wait for their Jedi Master.

After a short introduction the Padawans are brought onto the stage where the Jedi Master instructs them in a simple combination of lightsaber attacks.  Of course they are using “Training” lightsabers and not the real thing.

jedi-training-academy-darth-vader

Once the younglings have their training well under way a couple of storm troopers and Darth Vader appear and try to get the children to join the ‘Dark Side’.

Each Jedi Trainee faces off with Darth Vader or the Seventh Sister using the skills that they where taught.

Below: Facing off with Darth Vader and the Seventh Sister during Jedi Training ( a Memory Maker photopass photo)

Jedi_Training_Trials-of-temple-2

Once Darth Vader realizes that he has been defeated and that none of the young Padawans will join the Dark Side, he retreats and Yoda congratulates the Jedi Training Academy graduates.  The Jedi Master announces the graduates to the audience and the robes are gathered in exchange for a special Jedi Training pin.  Be sure to wear this pin proudly to show off your completion of the Jedi Training Academy.

Jedi_Training_Pin

I strongly recommend the Jedi Training experience to anyone with even a slight interest in Star Wars.

Don’t forget to purchase your Memory Maker photo package so that you can get all of the wonderful pictures that the Disney Photographers take & then be sure and add special Star Wars boarders once you arrive home.  If you have purchased Memory Maker, look for the Photopass photographer during your Jedi Training session & ask them for a photopass card at the end of the training.  They will hand you a card that is linked to the photos from your session.  Once you arrive home to download your photos, you will be able to add all sorts of neat boarders to the photos.  You may want to take that PhotoPass card to a Disney photo center & have them add the photos of only your child/children to your Memory Maker account.  If you add the PhotoPass card number later on, you will have pictures of all of the children that participated in Jedi Training that day.

Thank you for reading my article.

Ale & Compass Restaurant Breakfast Review

Recently we experienced breakfast at the Ale and Compass Restaurant in Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.  The last time we enjoyed the buffet here, it was the Captain’s Grille Restaurant with a light and tropical feel.  This restaurant remains one of the more cost effective options for the Epcot Candlelight Processional dining package during the holiday season. After the update it is now a more quiet & luxurious feeling restaurant and the breakfast menu has changed from a full buffet to an entree menu and optional continental buffet.

Disney's Ale & Compass Breakfast Review from the Candlelight Processional Dining Package.

Overview

Location: Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
Hours:
breakfast 7:30am – 11:00am
lunch 11:30am – 2:00pm
dinner 5:00pm – 9:00pm
Dining Style:  Table service with an optional continental buffet for breakfast
Dining Plan:  1 table service credit
Atmosphere: Warm, quite and inviting

Disney's Ale & Compass Breakfast Review from the Candlelight Processional Dining Package.

Since we had the Candlelight Processional Dining Package during this visit, we selected the Buffet option which included the continental breakfast buffet as well as our choice of one entree.

Review from my Experience
The Ale & Compass was our Candlelight Processional Dining package reservation.  The Candlelight Processional package allowed us to have guaranteed seats at the show with John Stamos as the narrator.  We have been wanting to try the Ale & Compass since the redesign and it was the most cost effective option as well.
Our reservation was for 10:55am and we checked-in at the podium 11:00am.  We were told that they were running a little behind & that they would text my cell phone when our table was ready.  We were okay with the wait because there are so many beautiful holiday decorations to look at in the resort.
I got a text around 11:35am & were promptly seated in a comfortable booth table & handed menus.  Our server did not arrive to acknowledge us for about 15 minutes & left after explaining our choices.  When he returned to take our order he told us to help ourselves to the continental buffet since it was included in our dining package.
When we visited the buffet, we found that they had limited amounts of food left.  The grapes were gone & there was only one cinnamon roll left.  Soon our food was delivered and we were told that the buffet was closing for lunch and we should go back one more time if we wanted to.  There was even less selection at that point.
– The Breakfast Flatbread was a very large portion, but I found it to be a little rich & oily in texture.  I may just be spoiled by the pizza at Via Napoli.
– The steak on the open-faced skirt steak sandwich was slightly tough; I prefer my steak to be very tender.
– The salted caramel-apple french toast was good comfort food and my family approved of the taste.
– The dark chocolate waffles were probably the favorite for our family topped with the rich cream and a side of bacon.

To their credit, when we mentioned that the cinnamon rolls were gone & they told us that they would not be making more, the manager overheard & did go to the Ale & Compass Market & bring some extra large cinnamon rolls from outside of the restaurant.  This is much more typical of the Disney service that we are spoiled by.

One of my favorite parts of the meal was my London Strand Earl Gray Twinings Tea.  I really enjoyed the beautiful flavors offered with my meal.  If purchased at the Twinings Tea store in the Epcot UK Pavilion, the cost of this tea is about $1.00 a bag.

I know that I may be slightly harsh in my review, but Disney has set the bar so high with their food that I now tend to expect excellence when my meal totals $180.00 for four adults.

What I would change for next time
If we take advantage of this low priced meal for the Candlelight Processional again, I will make a reservation for an earlier time.  I think that our experience could have been improved if we had not missed out on the delicious offerings at the continental buffet because we were seated so late.

Additional Information
I have to add that I did really like the redesigned bench seating at the back of the restaurant.  There is now a space behind the benches to set your park bags & other things.  This is very convenient & leaves more room on the benches to sit.

What’s Coming To Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World

In 2019 so many exciting things are set to debut in Walt Disney World. The new Gondola transportation system, 2 new resort additions, new nighttime shows in Epcot & Hollywood Studios.  The air is filled with energy, but I’m on the edge of my seat waiting to see the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land.

OPENING SEASON ANNOUNCED
Disneyland: summer 2019
Walt Disney World: late fall 2019

newest video of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, released on 12/25/18

If you are visiting Hollywood Studios in the near future, you may not be able to get into the new land yet, but you can get a unique photopass photo in front of this impressive entrance and pick-up some limited edition merchandise while you are there.

Below is a list of facts, that I regularly keep updated, for one of the most anticipated park expansions in Disney history.

1. It Opens Next Year! – Disneyland: summer 2019; Walt Disney World: late fall 2019.

Entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney World. 2018 - prior to the opening of the park.
The current entrance walls into Star Wars: A Galaxy’s Edge

2. It’s Set On The Planet Batuu – At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, guests will visit Batuu, a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes, but its prominence was bypassed by the rise of hyperspace travel. Now home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream, it has become a thriving port for smugglers, rogue traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. It’s also a convenient safe haven for those intent on avoiding the expanding reach of the First Order.

3. The first of two attractions will be called Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run where guests will be behind the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy in one of three unique flight crew roles.  This attraction will put you in the cockpit of the famous ship.  You will have a critical mission to complete and according to Disney Parks Blog “how you perform on the mission holds even bigger stakes: perform with skill and you may earn extra galactic credits, while bringing the ship back banged up could put you on the list of a bounty hunter. End up on Harkos’s list and you may face a problem if you show up at the local Cantina.”

4. The second attraction is called: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Guests will board a Star Destroyer, built on a scale that has never been done before, will make guests feel like they’re inside a hangar bay in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Teaser Trailer

5. A Cantina Will Serve Up Blue Milk – Only one food and beverage item has been announced for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so far and that’s the blue milk Luke Skywalker made famous in “Star Wars IV: A New Hope.”
NEW – Oga’s Cantina will be coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in both Disneyland & Walt Disney World and will include a colorful cast of characters to mingle with.  Oga’s Cantina will offer famous concoctions created with exotic ingredients using ‘otherworldly methods, served in unique vessels.  Libations for both kids & adults will be offers.  On top of the one-of-a-kind drinks, musical entertainment will be provided courtesy of RX-24, the former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid we first met in Star Tours.  He promises to be quirky and talkative and I’m sure he will be a central focus on the entertainment.

6. Expect To See Characters From A Galaxy Far, Far Away – Guests will also encounter many familiar faces inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including BB-8, Chewbacca, members of the First Order and – among many others – Rex, the troublesome pilot you may remember from the previous version of a certain Disney attraction who takes on a new role in this land as the DJ at the Cantina.

Meet BB8 in Star Wars Launch Bay in Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney World.

7. The Land Will Feature Marketplaces & New Toys – Imagineers looked to the exotic markets of Istanbul and Marrakech for inspiration for the land’s marketplace, where guests can explore a rich collection of shops and merchant stalls. One stall will be overseen by a Toydarian, a creatures fans first encountered on Tatooine in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.” Here, guests will be able to discover all kinds of fun toys straight out of the Star Wars galaxy.

8. Black Spire Outpost will be the name of the village in Galaxy’s Edge.  The largest settlement on the planet Batuu, Black Spire Outpost is an infamous stop for traders, adventurers, and smugglers traveling around the Outer Rim and Wild Space. Off the beaten path, this outpost has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful — and notorious — characters. Widely known for the petrified remains of its once towering ancient trees, the spires now stand guard across the river valleys and plains and have long captured the imagination of travelers to this planet. To the first settlers, these petrified spires became more than just landmarks; they became the heart of the outpost itself.  If you are as big of a Star Wars geek as I am, listen for the mention of “Black Spire” by L3-37 in Solo, while the droid, Lando, and the rest of the gang approach the Millennium Falcon.

9. The immersive Resort is now official: The location of the Star Wars Immersive Resort Planned for Walt Disney World Resort is now official, which has confirmed the resort we have all be talking about.  I hate to call this a resort as it appears that it will be more of an experience.  It is currently under development on the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios®, just east of World Drive. This location will allow the experience to be seamlessly connected to the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, enabling guests to fully immerse themselves in the story of Star Wars.

© Disney

Disney plans for this experience to stand out among all of their destinations around the globe. Families visiting this destination will board a starship that comes alive with characters and stories that unfold all around them during their voyage through the galaxy – and every cabin window has views of space! Guests visiting the multi-day adventure will also be welcome to participate as a resident of the Galaxy by dressing in Star Wars-inspired attire.

10. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Merchandise Has Already Been Released – The first Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge merchandise, available at select locations at the Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resort, was released in December. The line currently consists of an assortment of men’s and women’s T-shirts, hats and more that feature faces and places familiar to Star Wars fans, including the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge logo, the Millennium Falcon, BB-8, DJ Rex and more.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge merchandise in Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney World.
Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Merchandise can often be found in Hollywood Studios outside the entrance to Galaxy’s Edge

11. View A Portion Of The Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Model Right Now – A portion of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge model is currently on display at the end of the Walt Disney Presents exhibit at Disney’s Hollywood Studios®.
Stay tuned to Disney Travel News for more updates about Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World® Resorts.

12. Paired with the land’s dynamic elements and interactive integration with the Play Disney Parks app – guests are invited to become galactic travelers and live their own Star Wars stories in a galaxy far, far away.

13. Brand new music is being composed by legendary composer John Williams, exclusively for the new Star Wars land.  You can listen to the preview as well in this new video showing the construction progress…
